Spiritual Formation: Spending Time With God

As we turn the last page of chapter 2021, we now turn to chapter 2022 and find that the pages are blank with anticipation for what is to come. As you reflect on the pages of 2021 and discover that you had a great year, or others may find that the year was more challenging than 2020.

Over the past year, I have been on a spiritual journey with a friend. I asked him at the beginning of 2021 to check in with me to see how I was doing in my walk with the Lord. He is someone I have permitted to ask the hard questions each week. It has been good to meet with him every Tuesday. He has been there for the hard times to pray with, read, and talk about scripture, but most importantly, he asks me how I am spending time with God each week.

Spending time with God is how our roots grow deep. It is how we can face the storms of life. When we spend time with God and our hearts go deep, we can find the life-giving water we need to sustain and strengthen us.

No, really, how is your relationship with God? How are you doing spending time with God each day? Is God your number one priority?

Here are a few ways to start spending time with God in 2022.

1. Find a Place that is Quiet and Alone.

2. Prayer Scripture.

3. Get Outside with God.

4. One-Year Bible Plan.

5. Daily Devotionals.

6. Sing Worship and Praise Songs.

Let me encourage you to start the new year to create a new habit of daily spending time with the Lord.

What are some of the ways you spend time with God? Share in the comments.

The Sacred Quiet: When Silence Speaks

It’s been a while. The pause wasn’t planned, but necessary. Life has a way of ushering us into valleys we never asked to walk through. Over the past few months, my family and I have been navigating one such valley, marked by the sudden passing of someone we dearly loved. It’s the kind of grief that presses pause on everything else. Writing, ministry, even the most basic routines—suddenly all felt heavier, quieter, slower. And in that sacred quiet, I’ve learned something: sometimes, silence is a teacher. Grief has a voice. It speaks in sighs, memories, and unfinished sentences. It also speaks in silence. I used to resist that silence, afraid that stillness might lead to stagnation. But I’ve come to believe silence isn’t the absence of God—it’s often the space where we most clearly hear Him whisper. A Season of Reprieve In our fast-paced world, taking a step back feels counter-cultural. But I’ve come to see that it’s deeply biblical. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places—not just to rest...
