Season of Giving

Have you stopped long enough to think about the benefits of being a generous giver, even to the point of giving above what you currently give in your time, talents, and treasure?

In his epistle to the church of Philippi, Paul wrote from a cold, dark, damp prison cell to express his appreciation for the church's fellowship and partnership with him in the mission. Here is the thing. Though the church wanted to help their leader and meet his needs, that is not what Paul sought. In his letter, he wrote, “I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness” (Philippians 4:17). Paul was not concerned about the gift the church had sent to him as much as the development in the Philippians and their spiritual ability to give.

We need to remember two things: The greatest need is not the church's need for our gifts, but the greatest need is that we would all be givers.

Here are five reasons to give this season and seasons generously to come.

1.     It allows us to partner in the mission locally and globally.
2.     Positions us to receive the promised blessing to those who give.
3.     It makes it possible to leave a legacy for others to hear the message of hope.
4.     It increases our capacity to receive the blessing of God and the favor of others.
5.     God is a great giver and loves those who imitate him.

I end with this, Jesus said, “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Jesus was saying there is more excitement, joy, and happiness in a life of giving than in a life of acquiring and keeping. The benefit of being a giver far outweighs the benefits received by those who think of life only in terms of being a glass to be filled. Paul encourages us to give as the church in Philippi that we might partner with God in seeking and saving the lost.

During this season of giving, how can you give back in your time, talents, and treasure?

If this post has blessed you, take a moment to like, share, or even leave a comment.

  1. As I read this, with my grandsons sleeping down the hall, another reason came to mind for giving…to bless and encourage those younger ones in the faith, to instill and perpetuate in them a godly legacy. So I was encouraged to give of my thoughts on faith and to share stories of God’s goodness, as I did earlier in the day. We shared in our Creator Father’s joy in colors as we made our own pictures, and we talked about God’s imagination as He created animals and insects. Give, whatever you have, and be a blessing!

Heart for the Harvest: Nurturing Faith, Gratitude, and Growth in Every Season

Photo by Darla Hueske on Unsplash As October comes to a close, ushers in cooler air and the landscape shifts with the colors of autumn, we’re reminded of the beauty and bounty of harvest season. In the Christian journey, having a “Heart for the Harvest” is an invitation to cultivate faith, gratitude, and spiritual growth that can lead to a bountiful life, even amid challenges. Just like a farmer prepares the fields, we’re called to sow, tend, and ultimately reap what God has placed within our reach. This post explores four aspects of preparing for a spiritual harvest: sowing seeds of faith, cultivating gratitude, weeding out negativity, and reaping the rewards of steadfastness. I hope as you read this post you will be encouraged as you continue your faith journey. Sowing Seeds of Faith Before any harvest, there’s the initial step of planting seeds. For us, these are seeds of faith, planted through daily choices, small acts of love, and moments spent with God. Jesus reminds us in the P...
