Journey to Jerusalem Part 1 - The Call to the Holy City: A Journey of Purpose

Over the next week, as we approach Easter, I thought it would be a good time to make space and share Jesus' journey to Jerusalem. As we begin our sacred exploration into the journey to Jerusalem, our hearts are stirred by a resounding call—a call that echoes through the ages and beckons us to set our faces toward the Holy City. In this first part of our series, we dive into the profound significance of the call to Jerusalem, a call that shaped the very purpose of our Savior's mission.

Scripture: Luke 9:51 (NLT)

"When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem."

In these words, we find Jesus at a pivotal moment, his gaze fixed on the journey ahead. The call to Jerusalem was not merely a geographical destination; it was a divine summons, a purposeful mission that would culminate in the ultimate act of love and sacrifice. Let us, too, heed this call, understanding that our journey holds a purpose beyond the ordinary.

Setting Our Faces Towards Purpose

Jesus' intentional decision to set his face toward Jerusalem invites us to reflect on the significance of purpose in our own lives. Just as Jesus had a divine appointment awaiting him in the Holy City, each of us is called to live with purpose, to embark on a journey beyond daily life's routine.

Consider the moments in your life when you sensed a call, a purpose that stirred your spirit. It may not have been as dramatic as setting your face toward a city, but it was a nudge towards a new chapter, a change in direction, or a deeper commitment to a meaningful cause. Embrace these moments as divine calls, guiding you toward fulfilling your purpose.

The Journey of Sacrificial Love

The call to Jerusalem was a call to sacrificial love. Jesus knew the path ahead—betrayal, suffering, and the cross. Yet, he set his face with determination, driven by a love that surpasses all understanding. As we reflect on this, let us consider the sacrificial love we are called to embody in our lives.

Are we willing to set our faces toward the difficult paths of forgiveness, compassion, and selflessness in our families, workplaces, and communities? The call to the Holy City challenges us to embrace a sacrificial love that mirrors the love of our Savior.

Embarking on Our Journey

As we embark on this blog series, "Journey to Jerusalem," let us respond to the call with the same determination and purpose that Jesus displayed. Our individual journeys may take different paths, but the common thread is the call to a life of purpose, sacrificial love, and divine significance.

In the upcoming parts of this series, we will continue to unravel the layers of meaning within the journey to Jerusalem. May this exploration deepen our understanding of purpose and inspire us to set our faces towards the divine calls in our lives, trusting that, like Jesus, our journey holds the promise of redemption and fulfillment.

The Sacred Quiet: When Silence Speaks

It’s been a while. The pause wasn’t planned, but necessary. Life has a way of ushering us into valleys we never asked to walk through. Over the past few months, my family and I have been navigating one such valley, marked by the sudden passing of someone we dearly loved. It’s the kind of grief that presses pause on everything else. Writing, ministry, even the most basic routines—suddenly all felt heavier, quieter, slower. And in that sacred quiet, I’ve learned something: sometimes, silence is a teacher. Grief has a voice. It speaks in sighs, memories, and unfinished sentences. It also speaks in silence. I used to resist that silence, afraid that stillness might lead to stagnation. But I’ve come to believe silence isn’t the absence of God—it’s often the space where we most clearly hear Him whisper. A Season of Reprieve In our fast-paced world, taking a step back feels counter-cultural. But I’ve come to see that it’s deeply biblical. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places—not just to rest...

Signs. Signs are everywhere. Each sign that we see tells us something different whether on the road, in a restaurant, or even on a trail. Signs, according to the dictionary is “a gesture or action used to convey information or instructions.” Signs give direction and instruct individuals as to what they are looking at or even where they are going. As individuals who are attending and visiting churches, they are looking for the signs; signs of a healthy leadership team and church or body of believers. In this post I will share with you five signs of a healthy team and church. Sign 1: Each member loves Jesus Loving Jesus is more than just words.
