Heart For The Harvest: Lessons

God is trying to teach us some important lessons as we continue to grow. However, God is not a forceful teacher but one that is seeking individuals who are teachable and responsible. God through the Holy Spirit wants to teach us from His Word and our life.  As we have seen over the past few weeks, God has reminded us that He is on a mission and has been on mission to redeem the lost back to Him. This is where the local church comes into action. As believers, we are called into action and must respond faithfully to the command Jesus gave to the disciples found Matthew 28:19 where He called them to "go and make disciples." Jesus was reminding the disciples that there is a world that needs to hear of Christ's love, know the enemy is still in the world, and that time is running out. By commanding his disciples to leave their comfort zone, the light of God was beginning to disperse into the dark places of the world. Here we are in Port Angeles, and if someone would not have li...

Heart For The Harvest: Growth

Growth. 1) The process of increasing in physical size 2) Something that has grown or is growing according to the Oxford Dictionary.  A student came to his professor one day and said, "I am preaching to a dying church. What should I do?" The professor quickly responded with, "is it God's will for this church to die?" "Do you believe that God can enable your church to grow?" There are so many churches today that are weak and dying. However, scripture tells us, "God is building his church" (Matthew 16:18). It is God's will that the church would grow. It is through Him that growth is possible. This was noticeable in Acts 2, after Peter preached a powerful message that "the Lord added to the their number day by day those who were being saved" (Acts 2:47). Just like God grew the church in the first-century, He still desires to see the church grow locally and globally. God is inviting us to be an active part in reaching the lost and di...

Heart For The Harvest: Miracles

Every day we have the opportunity to see miracles. Where I live, I am surrounded by the mountains to the South and the Strait of Juan De Fuca with Canadian Mountains to the North. With Fall in full swing leaves are changing, which is a miracle in and of it self. Transformation is taking place as we move from one season to the next. The same thing can happen with a smile, an encouraging word, a touch, a heart that is distressed can go from being cold and turned off to having hope. We read of miracles in scripture, yet there are reports of miracles happening across the street and around the world. Matthew 9:1-8 shows us Jesus performing miracles of forgiveness that are linked to the physical healing of a paralyzed man who's legs where give strength to hold him up and walk away a healed man not only physically, but spiritually.  Recently, I had a Life Group meeting that was attended by a handful of individuals from the church I pastor. It was our last meeting as a group before ...

Heart For the Harvest: Voices

In every age there have been significant voices in the world. Now more than ever these voices can be heard as we read the newspaper, social media, listen to the radio, watch television, or even when we think of the world’s condition. The Bible also has much to say about voices. Sometimes the sounds we hear when we listen to the voices of the Bible or to the voices around us may be pleasant. These voices may be like music or like waves of the sea or like falling rain. But some of these voices may be unpleasant sounds—arguing, crying, or screams of anguish. When the Bible speaks of voices, it may be speaking of the voice of John—one crying in the wilderness, or of Jesus crying with a loud voice, or of a prophet’s voice, or of Peter’s or Paul’s voice. Scripture tells us in 1 Corinthians 14:10 that there are many kinds of voices in the world. We hear the voice of the millions of people who are desperate for help. People who are hungry, naked, sick, abused, oppressed, and even imprisoned. P...
